Shareholders Meeting Reveals New Info On Model Y and Tesla Semi Staff Writer June 7, 2017 News The annual Tesla shareholder’s meeting was held yesterday, and amidst all the talk of numbers, we got a few hints about the upcoming Tesla Model Y and the Tesla Semi. The Model Y, Tesla’s answer to the ever-popular compact crossover/SUV market, seems to be on track for a 2019 release, with an official announcement incoming at a future date. Musk mentioned that the Model Y will be built on a completely new platform, stating that one of his biggest mistakes was basing the current Model X off of Model S. The Model Y will not try to “shoehorn” an SUV onto a platform made for a sedan. Elon: "Really excited about Model Y". Model X was a mistake to be derived from Model S platform — Model 3 Owners Club (@Model3Owners) June 6, 2017 Also of note was the fact that the Fremont factory will not be building the Model Y, which will be produced at a new location. Currently, the Fremont factory has its robotic hands full with the Model S, X, and 3 productions. Parking is almost like fist fights" — Model 3 Owners Club (@Model3Owners) June 6, 2017 In addition to Model Y news, Musk also mentioned some tidbits regarding the upcoming Tesla semi-truck. The company is currently working with some of its biggest customers on the design of the semi, so there are folks out there that already know that Tesla has planned for the truck. The unveiling for the Tesla semi will be in September of this year, and Musk highly suggests that people show up for the unveiling, hinting that “maybe there is a little more than we are saying here.” Elon: "Semi truck on track for reveal at end of September". Working prototype. More options will be added down the line. For those who haven’t yet reserved a Model 3, Musk has some bad news for you; the wait is currently over a year. Elon: "Model 3 configurator will be basically what colour and wheels you want" — Model 3 Owners Club (@Model3Owners) June 6, 2017 Elon: "More options will be added as we go" — Model 3 Owners Club (@Model3Owners) June 6, 2017 Thank you to the Model 3 Owners Club for all these tweets from the meeting yesterday!
