Tesla News: Elon Musk Gives Update On Roadster Delay

After returning to the Joe Rogan Experience to talk mostly about Neuralink and Covid, Elon Musk gave a short update on Tesla’s upcoming products. Including the new Roadster, which Musk says will have a 0-60 mph of 1.9 seconds- and that’s for the base model!

With the Roadster we’re going to do some things that are kind of unfair. We’re going to take some things from like, you know, Rocket World… and put them in a car.

After Rogan asked about when we can expect the new Roadster to be launched, Musk hesitantly responded that he, “couldn’t say exactly when…this Covid thing has really thrown [them] for a loop.”

Despite their long talk on the reaction to Covid, Musk admits that the virus has “set [them] back on progress for some number of months.” Additionally he talks about how the Roadster is like desert, and that it will come after a long list of other milestones. The expansion of Giga Shanghai, ramping up of Model Y production, construction of Giga Berlin, release of the Cybertruck, and even the launch of the Tesla Semi will likely all come before the sportscar.

I think we should do Cybertruck first, before Roadster.

Musk detailed that some of the features in development, like the tri-motor plaid powertrain, are actually going to be in the Roadster after they go into other models, so they of course will precede its release. Also, he briefly says “more advanced battery pack, that sort of thing,” which heightens speculation around the upcoming battery investors day.

Before the pair signed off, Musk assured listeners that anyone who has been waiting for the Roadster, “won’t be sorry.”
