Elon Musk Claims Tesla Will Have Influence Over The Creation Of Artificial General Intelligence
Elon Musk has revealed his intentions to include Tesla in the creation of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and also stated that he wants to decentralize Tesla Bot’s control.
Elon Musk has been pushing the notion that Tesla is the world’s top company when it comes to real-world uses of artificial intelligence for a few years now. Tesla’s collection of cars with sensors and computers for automated driving are referred to as “robot vehicles.”
The company has been able to attract world-class AI talent through the “real-world application,” and Musk claims that Tesla has the greatest AI crew on earth.
Tesla unveiled its most advanced supercomputer, Dojo, at its AI event last year to train its neural networks. It also said it would develop a “Tesla Bot,” a humanoid robot meant to do routine chores and repetitive activities.
Elon Musk has taken to Twitter this morning to reveal that Tesla could go a step further and pursue Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) in order for its autopilot tech to reach the next level:
“Tesla AI might play a role in AGI, given that it trains against the outside world, especially with the advent of Optimus.”
The Tesla Bot project has been given the code name of Optimus Subprime by Musk. Given Musk’s many statements on creating AGI and the dangers it poses to humanity, this is somewhat surprising.
Elon Musk was a co-founder and the primary sponsor of OpenAI, a non-profit research organization dedicated to ensuring that artificial general intelligence benefits everyone. In 2018, he resigned from his position at the organization after stating concerns about potential conflicts of interest with Tesla’s own AI project.
Musk also tweeted that Tesla would ensure to “decentralize” control of Tesla Bots, in addition to announcing that the company might work on AGI:
“Will do our best. Decentralized control of the robots will be critical.”
Tesla Bots’ decentralized control would prevent the creation of an army—similar to that of a Terminator.
Elon Musk previously predicted that Tesla would have a prototype of ‘Optimus’ operational by the end of 2022.
