Tesla Cybertruck Transformed Into ‘CyberCat’ Catamaran In Latest Mod

The long-waited Tesla Cybertruck has been inspiring third-party modifications for some time now. We previously reported on a pop-up campervan, which is just one example of these upgrades, but we have now caught sight of the latest invention, the Cybercat.

Anthony Diamond, an entrepreneur, Tesla owner (and Cybertruck reservation holder), and technology expert from the Greater Seattle Area created Cybercat, the Cybertruck catamaran. Diamond is Memory Maps’ CEO and founder and was recognized on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for entrepreneurs in the energy category in 2017. He has a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

The concept is to adapt the Cybertruck into a catamaran or a hydrofoil as a more expensive alternative based on Elon Musk’s one-time remark that the e-truck might work as a boat for limited periods of time.

As a result, the Cybercat was developed, which is a collection of components that can be stowed on the truck without impeding range and turn it into a boat. It’s also less expensive to maintain and purchase than an actual boat, with estimated costs comparable to those for maintenance and initial pricing. Diamond claims it would take just 5-10 minutes for one person to switch from a land vehicle to a boat.

“I’ve dreamed about having a way to easily and quickly hop across the water whenever I desired, that was inexpensive, didn’t require boat parking (marina mooring) and, most importantly, was clean given my background in climate tech,” Diamond explains.

Even in its most rudimentary form, the Cybercat would be the solution to all these issues. Depending on how many 50 kW motors you want to install, Diamond thinks the Cybercat catamaran would cost between $22,000 and $32,900. Top speed is forecasted at 22+ knots (25 mph/40 km/h) and a range of 100 nautical miles at 5 knots (115 miles/185 km), while cruising range is 44 nautical miles at 13 knots (51 miles/81 kilometers) and 51 nautical miles at 15 mph (81 kilometers).

Diamond’s Cybertruck Cybercat Foiler upgrade is a higher-performance version of the original Cybercat. This one starts at $35,400 and goes up to $42,900 based on the number of motors installed. It has a top speed of 35 knots (40 mph/65 kph) and a range of 65 nautical miles (75 miles/120 km) when traveling at 22 knots (25 mph/40 kmh).

Diamond didn’t stop here though. He has taken this another step forward and has suggested a Cyber Island and Cybercat boathouse.

The Cyber Island is a ship made up of several Cybercats connected at the tailgates or pontoons. Diamond explained:

“Available power from the Cybertruck makes it convenient to cook, charge electric watercraft, and support countless other activities for endless fun on the water,”

The boathouse is a permanent floating residence that has been modified to house the Cybercat and convert it into a pop-up tent or camper shell.
