ICEing is a real issue with EV owners, including us Tesla folk. Standing for ‘internal combustion engine’, ICEing refers to when normal, engined cars block charging stations for EVs so they’re unable to charge, and this as I’m sure you’re aware can cause excess traffic at Superchargers and make long journeys even longer. And of course, it’s annoying!
While in countries like America, these ICErs can be towed away, but in countries such as the Netherlands, there aren’t any laws regarding putting a stop to ICEing.
A group of EV owners has taken this into their own hands in Croatia where they blocked a fuel station for six minutes. The block was used to “point out the fact that electric vehicles are here, and their positive impact on society,” according to Igor Kolovrat on Facebook.
Revenge of the Electric Car! This is how it looks when you have no other solution to emphasize the problem of blocking charging stations for EVs than to block gas station with electric vehicles. The performance lasted 6 minutes and it was not our intention to harass anyone, but to point out the fact that electric vehicles are here, and their positive impact on society.

The video you see above went viral on social media with countless other EV owners expressing their support, and before long this video racked up thousands of views. However, a large group of viewers had mixed feelings, wondering whether falling to the level of ICErs was the way to go about making a point.
We can’t agree with an act like this, and would urge people to start a rally that doesn’t affect other people’s lives in such a way. And if you encounter a charging station being ICEd in the UK or USA, call the police and they will arrange to have the car towed. You can see an example of that in the embedded tweet below. Hopefully other countries will follow suit and start to bring in laws that protect charging stations for EV owners.

Hätte der große Blaue tatsächlich die Ladesäule angezapft, wäre vermutlich in den umliegenden Haushalten der Strom ausgefallen.
