Audi’s New E-tron S and E-tron S Sportback Get Major Power Bump
It’s a great day when a mainstream automaker decides to add another motor to their flagship electric vehicle. Audi has announced that the S versions of the E-tron, which are both receiving new exterior styling and sizable performance boosts.
Both models come with 496 horsepower and 717 lb-ft of torque, thanks to a new motor on the rear axle.
The benefits of the new S version’s three motors are plentiful. The handling and acceleration will be much improved. Now the cars will reach 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, which is a whole second faster.
They also have torque vectoring on the rear axle, which will greatly improve handling, especially under complex conditions. Not to mention the top speed has been bumped to 130 mph.
Audi have also given the E-trons a redesign, they widened the body by a couple of inches. They beefed up the wheel arches and rehashed the bumpers to suite them.
Even the grille got an update, and the rear now sports a supped-up diffuser. With these changes, Audi has reduced the drag coefficient to .26 on the Sportback, and .28 on the S. That’s not to shabby for chonkers like these.
These two new models will ship to Europe later this year, with other markets shortly after. The E-tron S will cost €93,800 ($105,245) and the Sportback a slightly higher €96,050 ($107,800).
