Tesla News: Cybertruck Hits 650,000 Reservations

It seems like just the other day that Tesla unveiled their polarizing Cybertruck at the now infamous event. Shortly afterwards, they were put on preorder, either online or at one of Tesla’s locations.

With only $100 dollars down, you could get your name on the list for one… or three Cybertrucks. There are three variants, each with a different number of motors, price, range, etc., and as of a few months ago Elon Musk said there had been 250,000 orders, %17 of which for the base model.

Tesla Cybertruck To Get Smaller Version In The Future

Well now, a man named Dan Ives, of Wedbush Securities, has released a report to the companies clients, which claims Tesla have made 650,000 presales of their truck. Taken with a grain of salt, since $100 is a relatively small commitment, and that’s still a monster list of customers.

That %17 of orders were for the $40,000 truck, with the remaining %83 split evenly between the pricey $50,000 and $70,000 versions. Tesla now is going to start production with the more profitable dual and tri-motor trucks, in late 2021.

Even compared to the production of the Model 3, which required an extraordinary ramp in production capacity, the Cybertruck will be hard. It’s going to come with unique challenges, since it uses new exoskeleton technology, and also needs its own factory, which the land hasn’t even been bought for.

If Tesla can ramp up the Terafactory to 300,000 – 400,000 Cybertrucks per year, and a large chunk of these preorders stick, expect to see them on every street near you, by the end of 2022.
