Tesla News: Elon Musk Hints at Internationally Designed Future Models
With all of the Tesla factories planned to pop up around the globe in coming years, it’s not a stretch that the company would look to make models specific to different markets. For example, a “smaller European style hatchback.”
That idea was pitched to Elon Musk on Twitter today, and to our surprise, he seemed open to it. Musk responded to the tweet with, “probably a good one to design & engineer in Germany.”
This tells a lot about the future of the electric car company. It could potentially make models like the Cybertruck targeted at just the US, and China. On the other hand, it could make little micro-cars that are specific to European and Asian markets.
On another level, Musk also hinted at manufacturing differences between factories, even on the same Model Y. Word that Volvo got their hands on the Model Y, instigated a tweet that “Berlin Model Y is the one to watch. That is a revolution in automotive body engineering (finally).”
Analyzing the history of Model Y design rumors, patents, and tear-downs, it seems like the newest factory will be making the latest model in a new and improved manner. This would make sense, since the Model 3 and Y out of the Shanghai factory are somewhat different than ones made in the US.
When the Model Y was awaiting production, it was hyped as being totally revolutionary in its wire system and rear-end stamping. Munro & Associates found the wiring to be less than revolutionary, and the large stamp for the rear-end has only recently been implemented.
If the Berlin factory actually uses the new wiring system, in addition to the new stamp, it could be cooking with fire. Either way, these hints and teases are getting us even more excited for the future of Tesla.
