The Arrival Electric Bus Will Get You Excited About Public Transport

You may know the UK’s Arrival as the company behind those futuristic looking UPS delivery vans, which the company has ordered 10,000 of so far. Furthermore, you may know buses as the absolute most uncomfortable way of traversing city streets.

Good thing for us, the two are about to meet in big ways, as Arrival debuts its answer to public transportation. They’ve also gone so far as to emphasize their focus on stress-reducing design.

Arrival say that their bus will give its passengers “a sense of space, cleanliness and wellbeing in a world with a heightened awareness of hygiene and personal space.” This sounds like a tall-order considering that’s the opposite of what typical buses evoke.

However, if anyone can do it, then this classy EV company is who I’d put my money on. Their designs not only feature large screens which display stops and trip information, but also modules that provide ample social distancing, and are separated by clear dividers.

As if this wasn’t enough, Arrival have also said their bus must be priced at the same up-front cost of an ICE equivalent. Even though it will no doubt slash operating costs after it’s paid off, the lower price has to compel rapid adoption.

As for the locales that do purchase Arrival vehicles, whether buses or delivery vans, they have even more benefits coming their way. Arrival intends to explore “microfactories” as a means of production. These little factories will be very close to where the vehicles are deployed, and both hire in the area, as well as pay local taxes.

The plan is to have 1,000 of these little shops all around the globe by 2026, which sure does sound aggressive.
