Updated 2023 Formula E Calendar Revealed With Three New Cities

The updated 2023 Formula E calendar has been approved at the FIA World Motor Sport Council whereby it was revealed that the championship is set to take the sport to Cape Town, South Africa for the first time.

The 2023 season, which kicks off on 14th January in Mexico City, will also include the previously-announced new races at Hyderabad, India and Sao Paulo, Brazil. Further updates to the season are that Berlin is now set to host a double-header race weekend on 22nd and 23rd April, and the two races in Seoul have now been taken off the calendar.

There are still two locations that fans are waiting the release of for Rounds 10 and 13, which the FIA have left as “To Be Determined”.

Formula E Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Alberto Longo, has commented on the latest addition to the calendar:

“We are excited to announce Cape Town as a new destination for our series in Season 9. Our local partners are working incredibly hard to bring an ABB FIA Formula E World Championship race to the city and we cannot wait to see the futuristic Gen3 race cars competing against the iconic natural backdrop of Table Mountain.

Longo went on to explain why they had to make the decision to remove the Seoul races from next years line up:

“Renovation work at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul, the venue for our first races in South Korea earlier this year, means we cannot return to the same location next season as originally planned and so we are exploring other options in South Korea to replace this venue. We are also in active discussions with more world cities and venues to host an event on the other date without a confirmed location.”
